Connect Amplitude

Copy the API key and secret key of one project and paste them as a pair.

Surfil reads active users and event counts from one Amplitude project. Amplitude has no separate read-only key, so the pair is used only for reading reports. Start from Product analytics.

  1. Open the project

In Amplitude open Settings, then Projects, and choose the project to read.

  2. Copy both keys

On the General tab copy the API key and the Secret key. Both are 32 characters.

  3. Paste them as a pair

In Key, write them as api_key:secret_key, with a colon between them and no spaces, and press Connect.

  4. Choose your events

Pick the Core event (used the product), and optionally a Sign-up event (optional), then press Save events.

US host only

Surfil reads Amplitude's US address. A project in the EU data region cannot be read yet.

Whole project

Active users count everyone active in the project, not only people who fired your core event.

Core event

Used the product: the event that gives your active users in 28 days.

Sign-up event

Optional: the event for a new account. It gives new users in 28 days.

Retention and 7-day activation are not read from Amplitude.

When it does not connect

That does not look like an Amplitude key pair. Paste it as api_key:secret_key.

Each key is 32 letters and numbers, both from Settings, then Projects.

Amplitude did not accept that key pair.

Check that you copied both the API key and the secret key from the same project. If the project is in the EU region, it is not readable yet.

We could not reach Amplitude just now. Try again in a minute.

Nothing is wrong with your keys. Press Connect or Test now again shortly.

Amplitude would not list your events with the saved key

Hidden and deleted events are not listed. Choose Not listed, type it and type the event name, or check that both keys are from the same project.

Vendor menus change. These steps were last checked against Surfil's connector page on 7 October 2026.
